Irish holidays
Ireland is a very popular holiday destination owing to a combination
of the charming people, wonderful scenery and great hospitality. In
the cities there is a thriving night life or if you prefer it the
countryside is peaceful and sparsely populated with charming small
towns and villages. The coastline is dramatic and there are wonderful
beaches all around the emerald isle. The country has a knack for being
hospitable to its guests without being overwhelmed by them and you
seldom get the feeling that tourism has taken over a community and
turned it for the worse. |
The Irish Countryside
Ireland is an island off the western coast of the U.K. from which it is separated
by the Irish Sea and the North and St. George Channels. The coastal
areas tend to be mountainous and rugged, especially on the western
side of the island, which wards off the Atlantic Ocean with an almost-unbroken
line of cliffs and mountains. By contrast the central portion is relatively
flat, fertile farmland dotted with bogs. It is possible to drive the
length of Ireland in less than a day and to traverse the width of
the country in only a few hours. If exploring a particular region
whether it be on foot, horseback or behind the wheel, it is wise to
be mindful of the wandering sheep on most minor roads. |
